July 12, 2011. Temperature topped out at 97°F with a heat index of 121°F at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari just east of Evansville, Indiana. The extreme heat and humidity brewed this unreal thunderstorm that unleashed an apocalypse of super close cloud to ground lightning for over 45 minutes (I only got less than 10 minutes because my camera was dying). The white stripes are from bolts that my camera didn't capture. There was no sheet lightning in this.. it was nothing but cloud to ground lightning bolts all around us. Many of the strikes were so close that the hair on my arms was standing up. Disclaimer: This video was taken from the entrance of a bathroom, where a good-sized crowd was also ready to take or already taking shelter as there were tornado warnings all around us. The sad part? This happened on my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend.. at least it was memorable, lol.

thank you! :) the lightning knocked out all the power in the park.. we couldn't even get a drink of water. the manager ended up closing the park down early and handing out complimentary tix, because most of the rides had been hit by lightning and nothing in the park was working

Awesome footage. Mother Nature gave you a good party. The storms with only cloud-to-ground lightning strikes are my favorite kind of thunderstorms. With such storms, you know it will strike close to you... only when is the question. lol. Very nice footage. Last summer we a few 'CG only' storms too. Nice!

On the radar it was this HUGE storm that was mostly black in the middle with a thin line of red around the edge. The storm powered up as it continued to envelop other storms around it.. I also have a nice photo of a wall cloud that developed. It continued this violent intensity for nearly an hour, and started hailing shortly after I stopped the video and we heard tornado sirens in the distance.
