True, a rumor is going around that they're going to scrap it this year.

Might as well add "Son of the Beast" to this list.

I almost fell out of the Screamin' Demon when I was a kid (early 80's). The safety bar wasn't latched down, and was swinging freely. I just dug in, and held on for dear life.

I was absolutely terrified of The Screamin' Demon as a kid - thought it was scarier than the Beast due to the negative Gs and being lifted out of my seat. Loved the Bat too, and its two lift hills. Never understood why they got rid of it. It was the best suspended coaster I've ever been on.

I MISS the Bat that was a kick A** ride for any that had the chance to ride that awesome ride

This made me cry.

You're correct in that they are different designs - they were built by two separate companies. Screamin Demon was Arrow Dynamics' shuttle design which opened in 1977 (first one to open to the public). That same year the German company Schwarzkopf debuted its shuttle loop design at Kings Dominion in Virginia (the shuttle at Kentucky Kingdom is a 1978 version of that). I personally like the launch on the Schwarzkopf version better and coasting up the front spike almost running out of track!
