http://www.coasterimage.comOn September 21, 2007 Cedar Fair issued a press release announcing that Geauga Lake would become exclusively a water park attraction beginning with the 2008 season. All other operations in the park (namely the rides) would no longer be a part of the park's future. This came as a great blow to many in the enthusiast community as it was a bit of a surprise to see a park with such a long operating history essentially being shut down. This video consists entirely of footage gathered at Geauga Lake on opening day of the 2007 season - what would turn out to be the park's final year as a full-blown amusement park. No fancy editing. No music added. Just 8+ minutes of coasters and rides from that day.Check out http://www.coasterimage.com for other higher quality roller coaster & theme park videos, to download this video in high resolution or to get these videos on our free DVDs.

There are other parks that are not owned by Cedar Fair. PARC-7, Busch, and Six Flags all own parks that have their own charm, plus the smaller independents like Waldameer, Kennywood, Idlewild, etc.So yes, if you're mad at CF, don't go to CP. Spend your money elsewhere. It's the only way companies like that listen to their customers instead of their stockholders.

It's sad indeed. Hopefully those coasters will find a pleasant new home park that will take care of them. However, from what I've heard of Villain it can go to the scrap-yard.

Then they would of failed faster. The thing about Geauga Lake is that is was less then an hour away from Cedar Point, meaning it was in the shadow of a bigger park. Cedar Fair saw it as a poor investment to further add rides to it (note how in the entire time they owned it they only added water park attractions?). I am sad to see the park go, it did have plenty of great rides. Guess other parks will have to take them. |
