Naturalist Linda Gilbert shot this video early Tuesday at Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve in Mentor. "These 'Canadian' monarchs completed their long journey across Lake Erie and were resting in the trees by the hundreds," said Field Naturalist Tami Gingrich, also on scene. "Their amazing dead-leaf camouflage appearance on the branches keep them hidden from predators. Check them out early in the morning, because as soon as the sun begins to warm things up they actively continue their southward journey to Mexico."
