Beyond the Thrill Ride

More than just being the ultimate thrill ride, Chuck Aarons wild aerobatics involve overcoming the underlying mechanical and piloting challenges in getting a helicopter to do what its not supposed to.Helicopters arent supposed to do back flips, but, then, thats flying according to Chuck Aaron and Red Bull. Aaron is the only Federal Aviation Administration certified aerobatic helicopter pilot in the United States, and travels the U.S. performing at about two dozen air shows a year. We were lucky enough to not only catch up with him at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City Beach, Fla., but actually fly with him in the Bull Cow, as he affectionately calls his modified Eurocopter Bo.105.
